Terp Pearls Explained: What They Are and How to Use Them

Terp Pearls Explained: a quartz terp slurper banger and colored bubble carb caps on a white background

Updated October 2026 · Shatter Kitchen

Terp pearls are small balls, usually made of quartz, that you drop into a quartz banger. When you dab and cover the banger with a directional carb cap, the pearls spin through the oil, spreading it across more hot surface and helping the banger heat evenly. They are a small, easy add-on that works best in bucket and thermal bangers.

What are terp pearls made of?

Quartz is the most common material, because it matches the banger, handles heat well and cleans up easily. You will also see pearls made from other heat-resistant materials. Pearls come in different diameters, so the main thing is choosing a size that can roll freely in your banger's bucket without crowding it.

You may hear them called dab pearls or terp balls. They all do the same job.

What do terp pearls actually do?

  • Spread the heat. Pearls heat up with the banger and hold that heat, so there are more hot surfaces in contact with your dab.
  • Move the oil around. When air from a directional cap hits them, the pearls spin and push oil across the floor of the bucket instead of letting it sit in one puddle.
  • Help with cooler dabs. Because heat is spread more evenly, many people find they can start a little cooler and still vaporize the whole dab.
  • Leave less behind. Even heat and movement mean less unmelted oil left in the banger after the pull.

Results vary with your banger, cap, the concentrate and the temperature you like. Some people notice a big difference, others only a small one. If you prefer cooler dabs, our guide to low temp vs high temp dabs is worth a read.

Which bangers and carb caps work with terp pearls?

Terp pearls need a bucket with walls to roll around in and a cap that sends air across them.

Banger style Works with pearls? Notes
Bucket or cup Yes The classic pairing, with a directional cap
Thermal (double wall) Yes Holds heat well, pairs nicely with a spinning cap
Flat top Not really No walls, so pearls roll off
Terp slurper Uses its own inserts Takes a marble and pill instead of loose pearls

The cap is what gets pearls moving. A directional cap has an angled airflow tube that pushes air across the bucket floor. The Ball Pukinbeagle directional carb cap is made for thermal bangers and fits most bangers with a deep bucket, and its directional airflow spins your dab around the nail for an even melt. The Thick Glass Directional Carb Cap is made for thermal and standard cup style bangers. You will find more in our carb caps, and our guide on how to use a carb cap explains the technique.

How do you use terp pearls?

  1. Place one or two pearls in a clean banger with your dab tool.
  2. Heat the banger with the pearls inside so they come up to temperature together.
  3. Let it cool for a short moment, then drop your dab in.
  4. Cover the banger with a directional cap and turn the cap slowly as you inhale. The pearls should spin.
  5. Swab the banger and pearls while they are still warm.

Pearls stay hot for a while after a dab, so let them cool before handling them, and use your dab tool to move them.

How many terp pearls should you use?

Most people use one to three, depending on the size of the bucket. You want them to move freely. Too many and they jam together, block the airflow and stop spinning. Start with two and adjust from there.

How do you clean terp pearls?

Swabbing after each dab keeps residue from baking on. Every so often, drop the pearls into a small container with isopropyl alcohol and a little coarse salt, give it a shake, rinse with warm water and let them dry completely before heating. You can soak them alongside your banger, using the same steps from our guide on how to clean a quartz banger. Keep them in a small dish between sessions so they do not roll away.

Are terp pearls worth it?

If you use a bucket or thermal banger and a directional cap, pearls are one of the simplest upgrades you can make. They take seconds to add and can make lower-temperature dabs more even. Frequently asked questions

What do terp pearls do?

Terp pearls heat up with your banger and spin when air from a directional carb cap hits them. That spreads oil and heat across more surface for a more even dab.

Do terp pearls work in any banger?

They work best in bucket and thermal bangers that have walls to keep them in. They do not suit flat tops, and terp slurpers use their own marble and pill inserts instead.

How many terp pearls should I put in my banger?

One to three is typical, depending on the bucket size. They should have room to move freely and spin.

Do I need a special carb cap for terp pearls?

A directional carb cap works best, because its angled airflow pushes the pearls around the bucket. A cap that fits your banger's bucket is the key.

How do you clean terp pearls?

Swab them while warm after each dab. For a deep clean, soak them in isopropyl alcohol with a little coarse salt, rinse with warm water and let them dry completely before heating.
