Ready to take your first dab? While nothing should keep you away from your dab rig when you bring it home, there are some preparatory rites (such as seasoning) that you should be acquainted with. These affect not only the flavor of the dab, but also your health and hygiene. Plus, taking a few minutes before using your accessories can also enhance their effectiveness and lifespan.
For example, it is always help to wash the nail a little because sometimes manufacturers do not remove the protectant glaze. Of course, you wouldn’t experience this issue with glass and ceramic nails.
But even you have removed the protectant glaze, you still need to do something mentioned in the beginning of this article, namely, seasoning. The nail will continue to operate in the same way, but it will be so much better, especially when it comes to taste. Without seasoning, the nail can give out a metallic taste. This is especially true in the case of titanium nails, and even more so with quartz.
Basically, when you season a nail, you are essentially closing tiny pores so that nothing goes in and out. This protects the nail and elongates its life. Also, there are health benefits as well. The layer formed on the nail after seasoning it prevents oxidation (noticeable by the white powder that emerges on the top of the nail) and thus keeps you from inhaling toxins when you take a hit.
Here’s a simple technique for seasoning your quartz nails. Note that quartz nails may require more seasoning than titanium ones.
A small dab is necessary to avoid wasting the coating substance.
Heating for up to a minute will burn off any residue on our nail left during manufacture and packing.
Once the residual substance is burned off, cool the nail for a few seconds.
Put a thin layer of concentrate on nail when you are doing the dab.
Repeat these steps 2 to 3 times to thoroughly season your quartz nails.
You can use anything to season the dab nail. Examples include:
You can even use hemp oil. The added benefit with hemp oil is that it tastes like marijuana!
Avoid using water. Water supports oxidation, and in any case, it will steam away during the heating process. Some people use concentrated marijuana to coat their quartz nail, but it is prone to rancidification. The same holds true for vegetable oil.
So, as you can see, seasoning is a simple process, but it can greatly enhance the taste of your hits and can also save you from oxidation. Of course, there are other ways to improve the taste of your hits, such as capping. As you become more experienced, try out these different techniques so that you get a new experience every time you use.
